North Korea’s crumbling nuclear test facility is transforming the surrounding communities into contaminated “wastelands” where “corpses with severed limbs” float freely down open rivers, according to recent defectors from the communist nation.
The defectors told South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo that nearly 80% of the region no longer supports vegetation, and children are increasingly born with deformities associated with nuclear contamination.
“I heard from a relative in Kilju that deformed babies were born in hospitals there,” said one North Korean.
“I spoke on the phone with family members I left behind there and they told me that all of the underground wells dried up after the sixth nuclear test,” said another. “I personally saw corpses floating down the river with their limbs severed.”
According to Fox News, the nuclear fallout occurred when Kim’s premier nuclear test site reportedly collapsed following North Korea’s hydrogen bomb detonation; killing hundreds of technicians and emergency personnel operating in the facility.
Chinese officials warned the collapse could “take the roof off” of Kim’s recent hydrogen nuclear test, adding the fallout could reach as far as the west coast of the United States.
