The troubled National Football League continued to see its ratings completely collapse this week, with the NFL posting television viewership figures that sent officials and team owners scrambling to stop fans from abandoning the disastrous 2017 season in droves.

According to the New York Post, NBC’s flagship ‘Sunday Night Football’ game between the Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins was down a staggering 22% from the same time last year, producing the NFL’s third-lowest viewed game since 2011.

The day’s other match-up between the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons was down a disturbing 29%.

Earlier this week, NBC executives warned league officials that multiple sponsors had expressed outrage over the months long player protests, saying they were considering dropping their advertisements entirely.

“None of NBC-Universal’s NFL advertisers have pulled out of NBC’s Sunday Night Football or Thursday Night Football games. However, a ‘list of advertisers have made themselves very clear: if you continue covering the political coverage of the issue, we will not be part of the NFL,'” said NBC executive Linda Yaccarino. “Because think about it: they have half the country that is cheering about that, and they have half the country that is emailing them, saying, don’t do that. So that’s a real thing.”
