Six desperate Democrats officially filed paperwork on Wednesday, calling for the impeachment of President Trump for breaking federal law, violating the oath of office, and committing “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Liberal legislators, including Steve Cohen of Tennessee, Louis Guitierrez of Illinois, Al Green of Texas, and Adriano Espaillat of New York filed nearly half a dozen articles of impeachment against the Commander-in-Chief this week; claiming Trump “obstructed justice” when he fired former FBI director James Comey.
“We believe that President Trump has violated the Constitution, and we’ve introduced five articles of impeachment,” said Cohen at a joint press conference with his fellow legislators.
Mainstream Democrats and party leaders have urged their colleagues to refrain from calling for Trump’s impeachment, arguing the process has no path to success and will simply alienate American voters.
“House Democrats lack a positive message and are completely unwilling to work across the aisle, so instead they’ve decided to support a baseless radical effort that the vast majority of Americans disagree with. Republicans are focused on issues the middle class actually cares about, like cutting taxes and growing the economy,” a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee told the Daily Caller.
