MATT SPEAKS: 'Embarrassed' Lauer 'SORRY' for Sex Abuse Allegations

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.16.17

Disgraced NBC icon Matt Lauer issued a formal apology Thursday, just a day after the ‘Today’ host was abruptly fired from his post over allegations of widespread sexual abuse and assault; saying some of the allegations are false, but there’s “enough truth” to make him feel “ashamed.”

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt I am truly sorry,” said Lauer’s statement, read on-air by his ‘Today’ co-hosts.

“As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC,” he added. “Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly.”

“The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace,” he concluded.

The anchor was immediately fired on Wednesday, following an emergency overnight meeting between NBC executives and his accuser’s lawyers who claim she was sexually assaulted by Lauer while covering the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.
