House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi trashed the recently passed GOP tax legislation on Monday, calling the Republican-sponsored tax cuts the “worst bill in the history of the United States Congress.”
Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives, the former Speaker ripped the overhaul of the nation’s outdated and overcomplicated system as a bill that “hurts people” and was passed “at the speed of light.”
“I have said that this was stiff competition by some of the other things they have put forth, is the worst bill in the history of the United States Congress,” Pelosi told her colleagues.
“Now, how can I make that claim? Well, because it involves more money, hurts more people, increases the deficit by so much more, and just because everything is bigger in our country, the consequences of this bill, a multi-trillion-dollar economy being addressed by a bill that had no hearings, no expert testimony, just the speed of light,” she added.
Pelosi’s comments come as the House of Representatives resumes debate over their version of the GOP tax plan passed in November. Just days ago, the Senate approved their version of the bill, which will now be negotiated in conference before being sent to President Trump’s desk.
