The left-wing mayor of Oakland, California vowed she’d go to prison before she caved to federal authorities on her ‘Sanctuary City’ policy regarding illegal immigrants this week, saying her community will never give-in to the “Bully-in-Chief” in the White House.
According to CBS San Francisco, Mayor Libby Schaaf made her pledge while speaking with reporters Thursday following an Immigration and Customs Enforcement announcement that ICE would be conducting raids throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including Oakland.
“It is no surprise that the bully in chief is continuing to try to intimidate our most vulnerable residents,” said Schaaf, a longtime Hillary Clinton supporter. “We’re very clear that our values are to protect all of our residents regardless of where we come from. We want to protect families, not tear them apart.”
“The fact that the federal government is suggesting that it is actively retaliating against jurisdictions that are exercising their right to have sanctuary policies — that is what is illegal,” she added.
The west coast mayor was then asked by reporters if she would rather go to prison than cave on Oakland’s sanctuary status.
“YES!” she replied.
DACA DENIED: Federal Judge BLOCKS Trump’s ‘DREAMER’ Decision
The White House blasted a federal judge’s recent ruling that blocked President Trump’s decision to end DACA earlier this year, calling the move “outrageous,” particularly “in light” of the President’s widely-praised bipartisan round-table regarding the hot-button issue.
“We find this decision to be outrageous, especially in light of the President’s successful bipartisan meeting with House and Senate members at the White House on the same day,” said White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
The President himself commented on the judge’s ruling on Wednesday, saying the court’s decision “shows everyone how broken and unfair our Court System is.”
“It just shows everyone how broken and unfair our Court System is when the opposing side in a case (such as DACA) always runs to the 9th Circuit and almost always wins before being reversed by higher courts,” Trump tweeted.

Earlier this week, a federal judge in San Francisco halted President Trump’s decision to phase out the unconstitutional immigration plan, saying the White House used a “flawed legal premise” to end the program; essentially reinstating the law until Congress permanently handles the issue.

GAME CHANGER: DHS to Begin CHARGING Mayors of SANCTUARY CITIES
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed this week that her department is investigating whether they can bring criminal charges against mayors and leaders of sanctuary cities and states for defying federal law, adding that the DOJ is “reviewing what avenues may be available.”
“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues may be available,” Nielsen told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
According to the Washington Times, the announcement comes just days after California’s new “sanctuary state” law makes it nearly impossible for federal investigators and prosecutors to interact with illegal immigrants and other undocumented individuals throughout the nation’s most populous state.
The DHS Director was speaking with Senators this week over a host of issues, including the Trump administration’s push on immigration reform; adding that “everyone in the room” -not President Trump- was using “general profanity” in discussing DACA and funding President Trump’s promised border wall.
“What I was struck with, frankly as I’m sure you were as well, was the general profanity that was used in the room by almost everyone,” she added.
