Former Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders raised eyebrows throughout liberal circles Wednesday, telling a local Vermont radio station that Hillary Clinton may know more about Russian Facebook activity during the 2016 presidential race than she publicly admits.
The Socialist Senator was speaking with Vermont’s Public Radio when he was asked to comment on recent revelations that Russian agents were seeking to “sow division” between his campaign and Hillary’s team; suddenly slamming his Democratic rival’s handling of the issue.
“I did not know Russian bots were promoting my campaign,” Sanders said. “In the midst of all of this, I was out campaigning very hard for Hillary Clinton. So, let me leave it at that.”
“If you and your campaign knew there was Russian meddling and it was trying to sow division, why not take that directly to your supporters?” asked radio host Jane Lindholm.
“They had more information about this than we did. And at this point we were working with them,” Sanders fired-back. “We knew what we knew, when we knew it. And that’s about all I can say.”
