RAND’S STAND: Sen. Paul VOWS to BLOCK Trump’s Picks for State Dept., CIA

posted by Hannity Staff - 3.14.18

GOP Senator Rand Paul publicly announced his total opposition to President Trump’s nominees to head the State Department and the CIA on Wednesday; saying he’s “going to do everything” he can to block them from office.

According to Politico, the outspoken Senator revealed his intentions while speaking with reporters at the US Capitol, saying people “complain sometimes about the filibuster” but added he plans to use the procedural maneuver to derail the nomination process.

“People complain sometimes about the filibuster, they complain about trying to obstruct… “I’m going to do everything I can to block them,” said Paul.

“I’m perplexed by the nomination of people who love the Iraq War so much that they would advocate for a war with Iran next,” Paul added. “It goes against most of the things President Trump campaigned on, that the unintended consequences of regime change in Iraq led to instability in the Middle East.”

Sen. Bob Menendez -the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee- signaled CIA Director Mike Pompeo may have the support of some liberal colleagues; citing their prior votes for the Director during other nomination hearings.

“There are Democrats who supported him for the CIA director, but being secretary of state is totally different than CIA director,” said Menendez, pointing out that 15 caucus members supported Pompeo as head of the CIA just last year.

The new legislation would transform Obamacare subsidies into state block grants, which could then be spent by the individual states as they see fit. The bill also rescinds the Obamacare mandates on individuals and small businesses.

Sen. Paul has harshly criticized the new GOP effort, referring to the plan as “Obamacare light.”

Speaking on the Sean Hannity Show, Paul slammed the bill, saying it retained 90% of Obamacare taxes and government payouts.

“As a physician, I’ve seen Obamacare up close and personal, and it doesn’t work, it’s a horror. I think we all agree that it’s a terrible system, but I want to repeal it,” said Paul. “The Graham-Cassidy bill keeps 90% of the spending, 90% of the taxes, and then just re-shuffles the formula to send the money to Republican states.”

REXIT: Rex Tillerson OUT as Secretary of State, CIA Director Pompeo IN

posted by Hannity Staff - 3.13.18

President Trump announced Tuesday morning his decision to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo; ending months of speculation over Tillerson’s future at the Department and re-focusing the President’s foreign policy agenda as he sets his sights on future talks with North Korea.

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!” the President tweeted.

In a statement released by the White House, Director Pompeo expressed his “deep gratitude” to the President, adding he’s “looking forward to representing” the people of the United States.

“I am deeply grateful to President Trump for permitting me to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and for this opportunity to serve as secretary of state. His leadership has made America safer and I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America’s prosperity,” said the statement.
