SCHUMER’S SCHEME: Chuck Unveils His Strategy to BLOCK Trump’s Court Pick

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.10.18

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer unveiled his plan to block the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Tuesday, saying he plans to peel away at least one GOP vote by “proving to the American people” he poses a threat to Obamacare.

Schumer was speaking with CBS News Tuesday when he was asked about a potential Democratic path to sink Kavanaugh’s confirmation process; claiming he was prepared to “get a majority.”

“Let me say this. I believe if we can prove to the American people, which I believe is truly the case, that this nominee will lead to a court that repeals women’s reproductive freedom, repeals ACA with its protections for pre-existing conditions, we will get a majority of the Senate to vote for it,” said the Senator.

“Obviously, even if we had every Democrat, we need two Republicans. But if we can make that case, we will get a majority,” he added.

With Sen. John McCain absent from Congress, the GOP controls the chamber with a razor thin 50-49 majority; meaning Schumer may need just one Republican vote to sink Kavanaugh’s nomination.

BREAKING: President Trump Picks BRETT KAVANAUGH to Join Supreme Court

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.09.18

President Trump officially unveiled his pick to replace outgoing Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court Monday night; announcing his decision to nominate federal appeals court judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh currently sits on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which commonly rules on hot-button issues and major cases regarding federal law.

The 53-year-old judge was nominated to the circuit court by former President George W. Bush and confirmed back in 2006 by a 57-36 vote.

The President’s comments come after days of fevered speculation surrounding the nation’s highest court with swing-vote Anthony Kennedy announcing his planned retirement just weeks ago.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi vowed to fight the President’s nominee Monday night, saying her party will work hard to “avenge President Obama,” whose Supreme Court pick Merrick Garland stalled throughout the confirmation process.

BREAKING: Supreme Court Sides with BAKER Who Refused to Make Same-Sex Wedding Cake

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.04.18

The United States Supreme Court released a highly-anticipated decision Monday morning, siding with a Colorado baker who refused to make a same-sex wedding cake.

In a surprise 7-2 decision, the court discounted an earlier ruling against the baker in a Colorado court, but refused to go so far as to decide the broader issue of whether American businesses have the basic right to refuse service to same-sex couples over religious beliefs.

“The Commission’s hostility was inconsistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee that our laws be applied in a manner that is neutral toward religion,” wrote Justice Kennedy.

The decision went on to say the “broader issue must await further elaboration.”

“The reason and motive for the baker’s refusal were based on his sincere religious beliefs and convictions. The Court’s precedents make clear that the baker, in his capacity as the owner of a business serving the public, might have his right to the free exercise of religion limited by generally applicable laws,” Kennedy wrote. “Still, the delicate question of when the free exercise of his religion must yield to an otherwise valid exercise of state power needed to be determined in an adjudication in which religious hostility on the part of the State itself would not be a factor in the balance the State sought to reach.”
