A string of Democratic-Socialist candidates made major inroads in Chicago’s recent citywide elections; taking at least five seats -and possibly a sixth- as the region struggles to clampdown on rising crime and homelessness.
“A total of five democratic socialists, and possibly a sixth, won races for alderman either in February or in Tuesday’s runoff elections,” reports CBS Chicago.
“That sixth candidate, Rosanna Rodriguez-Sanchez is trailing longtime Ald. Deb Mell by only a few dozen votes. Mell, whose family has represented the 33rd Ward for more than 40 years, is hoping that mail ballots will help her maintain her seat,” adds the author.
The results come as leading national Democrats -including Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez- endorsed the total abolishment of the Electoral College and other progressive policies heading into the 2020 race for the White House.

SOCIALISM USA! AOC Says Capitalism ‘Not Sustainable’ Because of the ‘Environmental Costs’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted the American economic model during a speech in Texas over the weekend; saying “capitalism” was “not redeemable” because it places “profit” over the “human and environmental cost.”
Here's where @AOC says capitalism is "irredeemable."
Under capitalism, "the most important thing is the concentration of capital and it means that we seek and prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else, and we seek it at any human and environmental cost." pic.twitter.com/GeZaYILXCo

“The tough part about this, about like, is capitalism redeemable? For me, when I think about what those definitions are, capitalism isn’t, to me, it’s an ideology of capital. The most important thing is the concentration of capital,” claimed Cortez.
“It means that we seek and prioritize profit […] above all else. We seek it at any human and environmental cost. That is what that means. To me, that ideology is not sustainable and cannot be redeemed,” she added.
SOCIALISM USA! Bernie Calls for ‘Political Revolution’ Against ‘Fossil Fuel Billionaires’
Vermont Senator and potential 2020 candidate Bernie Sanders set his sights on “fossil fuel billionaires” Monday; saying the United States needs a “political revolution” to turn the country towards “clean energy.”
Sanders posted his incendiary comments on social media this week; slamming President Trump’s tax cuts as an outright “lie” to middle class Americans.
“During Trump’s campaign, he repeatedly promised the American people that ‘the rich would not gain at all’ from his tax plan. He said it would provide a ‘big-league tax cut for the middle class.’ He lied. It’s time for an economy that works for all of us, not just the rich,” Sanders tweeted.

It’s time for a political revolution that takes on fossil fuel billionaires, accelerates our transition to clean energy, and finally puts people before the profits of polluters.
