SUPREME SURPRISE: Justice Gorsuch BREAKS with Trump On Immigration

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.17.18

President Trump’s Supreme Court pick surprised the White House Tuesday; casting the tie-breaking vote against the administration on a pivotal immigration case and handing the White House a major setback in their fight to crackdown on undocumented workers.

The Court voted 5-4 against the White House’s proposal to deport specific illegal immigrants residing in the United States who commit a “violent crime,” saying the “language was too vague” to be properly enforced.

Gorsuch joined the four liberal Supreme Court Justices in striking down the proposed guidelines; surprising political pundits and conservative lawmakers.

“The court’s 5-4 decision — an unusual alignment in which new Justice Neil Gorsuch joined the four liberal justices — concerns a catchall provision of immigration law that defines what makes a crime violent,” writes Business Insider.

Justice Elena Kagan praised the ruling in her official opinion on the case, saying a conviction of a loosely-defined “violent crime” would result in the “virtual certainty” of deportation.

'TOTAL CATASTROPHE': Four Separate IMMIGRATION BILLS FAIL in US Senate

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.16.18

Four separate immigration bills crashed and burned in the US Senate this week, capping off a week of fiery debate, negotiations, and eventually defeat as both the President’s proposal and a bipartisan bill failed to secure enough votes.

Trump’s four-part immigration plan -which would provide a pathway to citizenship for nearly two million ‘Dreamers,’ fund his border wall, and end “chain” migration- went down in defeat, with many Republicans joining their Democrat colleagues and sinking the bill in a 39-60 vote.

The Senate’s bipartisan deal also fell short just hours after Trump threatened to veto the bill he described as a “total catastrophe.”

“The Schumer-Rounds-Collins immigration bill would be a total catastrophe. @DHSgov says it would be ‘the end of immigration enforcement in America.’ It creates a giant amnesty (including for dangerous criminals), doesn’t build the wall, expands chain migration, keeps the visa,” Trump tweeted.

The Senate’s inability to pass any immigration deal comes as the March 5th deadline looms with the nation’s DACA program officially expiring; throwing into question the fate of millions of ‘Dreamers’ currently residing in the United States.

CALIFORNIA CHAOS: Gov. Says National Guard ‘WILL NOT ENFORCE’ Immigration Laws

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.11.18

California Governor Jerry Brown begrudgingly accepted President Trump’s demand that he deploy the National Guard to the southern border Wednesday, but defiantly declared his troops “will not be used to enforce federal immigration laws.”

The Golden State Governor agreed to send approximately 400 troops to the US-Mexico border; adding they will be used for targeting “criminal gangs” and “illegal firearms” but will not “build a wall” or “round up women and children.”

“Let’s be crystal clear on the scope of this mission. This will not be a mission to build a new wall. It will not be a mission to round up women and children or detain people escaping violence and seeking a better life. And the California National Guard will not be enforcing federal immigration laws,” said his statement.

I agree with the Catholic Bishops who have said that local, state and federal officials should ‘work collaboratively and prudently in the implementation of this deployment, ensuring that the presence of the National Guard is measured and not disruptive to community life,’” he added.
