Israeli officials announced Tuesday they had successfully foiled a potential assassination plot against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; saying the Syrian-orchestrated attack would have been devastating to the Jewish State.
According to the Israeli Security Agency, similar to the United States’ FBI, the alleged Syrian-backed terror cell was hoping to carry out attacks against Netanyahu, the American embassy, a Canadian delegation, and the Mayor of Jerusalem.
The agency says a Palestinian with an Israeli identification card was arrested while attempting to enter the country from a refugee camp in East Jerusalem where he plotted the attack.
“During his investigation it was revealed that Rashda planned what was described as a ‘significant terror attack’ against a number of targets, including senior Israeli officials like Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat,” writes Haaretz.
