Lieu was speaking with CNN after attending a Congressional hearing surrounding tech companies’ recent efforts to censor content and crackdown on “fake news.”

“I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech. The First Amendment prevents me from doing so. That’s simply a function of the First Amendment,” said the California Congressman. “I would urge the private sector companies to regulate them better themselves, but I believe it’s something the government can’t do.”

ECHO CHAMBER: Dem Rep Calls for Probe into Nikki Haley After PHONY HEADLINE

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu called on his Congressional colleagues to launch an investigation into Nikki Haley and the State Department’s budget this week; saying “this is not okay” after citing a debunked New York Times headline surrounding the Ambassador.

“This is not okay. As a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I call on @HouseForeign Chairman @RepEdRoyce to hold an oversight hearing on @StateDept spending on @nikkihaley and her deputy,” tweeted the Congressman Thursday night.

Lieu fails to mention the article -while suggesting Haley purchased $52,000 curtains for her New York residence- admits six paragraphs later that the window-dressings were approved in 2016 by the Obama administration.
