President Trump addressed the nation Friday just hours after a gunman opened fire at the Santa Fe High School in southeast Texas; saying “every level of government” needs to work together to ensure the safety of America’s children.
The Commander-in-Chief spoke to reporters before holding high-level meetings focused on prison reform; saying it was a “very sad day” after the school shooting that left at least 10 people dead and dozens injured.

TEXAS SHOOTING: At Least 8 Dead in School Shooting, Suspect in Custody
At least 8 people were shot and killed during a school shooting in Texas Friday morning with the suspected gunman now in police custody, reports Fox News.
The rampage began shortly after 8:00am at the Santa Fe High School in Texas, with local media reporting the shooter “appears to be a student.”
“Details will be released as we receive updated information. Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location,” said a statement from the school district.

“We thought it was a fire drill at first but really, the teacher said, ‘Start running,'” one student told Fox News.
“Now I am worried about everyone else,” added another. “I don’t even want to go to graduation now.”

TEXAS SHOOTING: Multiple ‘EXPLOSIVES’ Found at Texas High School
Multiple “explosive devices” have been found both on and off campus of the Santa Fe High School in Texas; the scene of a deadly shooting Friday morning that left at least 8 people dead and dozens injured.
The Santa Fe Independent School district confirmed the devices on social media, writing “#UPDATE There have been explosive devices found in the high school and surrounding areas adjacent to the high school. Because of the threat of explosive items, community members should be on the look-out for suspicious packages and anything that looks out of place.”

Police Chief Jeff Powell urged local residents to be on the lookout for additional “suspicious items” surrounding the school.
President Trump commented on the school shooting Friday before meeting with prison reform advocates, saying the United States will stand with the victims “forever.”
