The Mayor of London announced this weekend new guidelines and police procedures aimed at tackling the stabbing spree sweeping the UK capital; saying there’s “never a reason to carry a knife” and putting hundreds of police officers back onto the streets.
According to the Telegraph, at least 300 additional officers will patrol London’s deadliest neighborhoods, where the murder-rate topped 50 people since the start of 2018. Unlike the United States, nearly all killings in the UK are committed with knives and other stabbing weapons.
“No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law,” tweeted Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“Over this weekend we will have 300 more officers each day exclusively working against knife crime, exclusively in those parts of London that have been most affected recently,” said the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. “In what we call the hotspots.”
