VACATION CANCELED: Mitch McConnell CANCELS Senate’s Summer Recess

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.05.18

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell caved to Republican pressure and canceled the Senate’s August recess Tuesday, saying the lawmakers will work through the vacation to help advance the President’s agenda ahead of the 2018 midterms.

According to Business Insider, the GOP leader slammed “obstructionist” Democrats in a statement released Tuesday afternoon, saying Senators “should expect to remain in session in August” to enact appropriation bills, pass legislation, and approve nominees.

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled,” McConnell said in a statement. “Senators should expect to remain in session in August to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president’s nominees.”

MITCH UNDER FIRE: GOP Senators Call-On McConnell to CANCEL August Break

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.15.18

Conservative members of Congress urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to cancel the annual August recess this week; saying GOP lawmakers need to get to work to pass the President’s agenda before the 2018 midterm elections.

A group of seven Republican legislators led by Senator David Perdue of Georgia called on McConnell to postpone the recess Tuesday, pointing out that there are a dozen appropriation bills ahead of the vacation with only 52 working days remaining.

“This is nothing more than trying to make our government work again,” Perdue told reporters.

His comments come just a day after he sent a scathing letter to the GOP leader, adding Republican legislators were prepared to work weekends and longer hours to pass President Trump’s ambitious agenda.

“We want to offer our full support to expedite floor consideration, even if we must work nights and weekends and forgo the August recess to get it done,” said the letter.

MITCH UNDER FIRE: GOP Senators DEMAND McConnell Move on Trump’s Agenda

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.11.18

At least 16 Republican Senators sent a strong message to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Friday; demanding the party leadership “get moving” on President Trump’s legislative agenda.

The group, led by Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, called on McConnell to act more aggressively on the President’s key campaign promises; pointing out there are less than 70 working days remaining in the 2018 fiscal year.

The Republican legislators are calling on the GOP leader to work through Fridays -and some weekends- to pass key legislative victories heading into the 2018 midterm elections.

“If we reach August and we still have not completed appropriations work or not confirmed our nominees, then of course we would like to see the Congress stay here and do its work,” said White House legislative affairs director Marc Short.

“We continue to witness historic obstruction by the minority party when it comes to funding the federal government and confirming the President’s nominees,” writes the letter to McConnell. “If we are complicit, we are on track for another last-minute spending battle come September. However, if we take action now, we can break the cycle of continuing resolutions and omnibus spending deals. Therefore, we want to offer our full support to expedite floor consideration, even if we must work nights and weekends and forgo the August recess to get it done.
