A prominent left-wing legislator felt too uncomfortable with the level of patriotism at President Trump’s first State of the Union address, fleeing the chamber when Congressional lawmakers began chanting ‘USA’ during the Commander-in-Chief’s annual speech.
Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez -an outspoken critic of President Trump’s immigration policies and a vocal advocate for the ‘Dreamers’- abruptly left the chamber as his colleagues belted out the patriotic chant.
We have a bipartisan standing ovation — and a lot of "USA!" chants. https://t.co/00Kmhu7ges

The legislators were reacting to the President’s unapologetic praise for the men and women of the armed forces who fought in World War 2, saying “Young Americans who shed their blood on the shores of Normandy and the fields beyond, and others who went down in the waters of the Pacific and the skies all over Asia.”
“Freedom stands tall over one more monument, this one, this Capitol, this living monument. This is the monument to the American people,” he added.
Upon hearing the chant, Rep. Gutierrez quickly fled the scene, with fellow Democrats consoling him as he walked by.
